Karl Geier is a transactional shareholder in Miller Starr Regalia’s Walnut Creek Office. For over 30 years, his practice has focused on all aspects of complex real estate transactions, land development and finance.
Karl counsels and represents developers, financial institutions, public entities, significant operating companies and investors in a wide variety of matters associated with the acquisition, development, construction, marketing and disposition of substantial residential, commercial and industrial projects. In addition to real estate transactions and real estate financing, his expertise includes land use planning and CEQA issues.
He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the firm’s 12-volume treatise, Miller & Starr, California Real Estate 3d, and the related periodical, Miller & Starr Newsalert, both published by Thomson-West.
A substantial portion of Karl’s practice involves the representation of banks and other institutional lenders in construction and permanent financing, including loan documentation, negotiation and workouts, consultation on lending practices and regulations, and foreclosure and enforcement of remedies against borrowers and guarantors. His experience includes specialized transactions such as health care and elder care project finance, hotel financing, religious organization lending, leasehold finance and joint venture transactions, as well as inter-lender matters involving loan participations, syndicated loans, subordinated and mezzanine financing and various types of loan pools and single loan purchase and sale transactions.
His land use work includes the representation of developers in planning, zoning and subdivision processes, including environmental compliance and redevelopment matters. He regularly consults on land use and CEQA litigation, foreclosure and related creditors remedies and other complex litigation involving his developer and financial institution clients.
EDUCATION
Karl graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a degree in Political Science. He received his J.D. from the Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley.
