The two-week drive takes place annually in the late spring. Miller Starr Regalia sponsors events during the two weeks of the drive including a Silent Auction with items donated by the firm, attorneys and staff.
All proceeds from the drive benefit the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano, which provides food to hungry County residents, many of whom are children and the elderly.
About Food from the Bar
Since 1992, Contra Costa County Bar Association has sponsored an annual competition in the spring to raise food and money for the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano. Law firms, solo practitioners and county legal offices compete to raise the most per capita and every dollar counts.
Since its inception, county attorneys have donated more than $1 million and over 54 tons of food, making CCCBA one of the Food Bank’s largest supporters. In 2017, the Food From the Bar raised over $56,500!
About the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano
The Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano distributes food directly to low-income people at community sites and makes food available for other nonprofit organizations serving the ill, needy and infants.
In 1975 a group of people recognized that at a time when local families had a critical need for food, items like day-old bread at grocery stores would often go to waste. That was emergency food service, now the Food Bank helps people survive day to day. The Food Bank has gone from providing emergency food to a small number of people – to a resource that one in eight of our neighbors rely on for help with food.
